How to Draw A Smile
Step 1
Start by drawing a flawless circle shape in the middle of the paper. This outlines the smiley’s head.
Don’t hesitate to use a compass if you need help drawing a perfect circle. This drawing tool allows you to draw a symmetrical circle quickly and easily.
Here’s a handy tip: create reference lines by drawing an intersecting horizontal and vertical line on the paper.
Where the two lines meet, mark where you should draw the circle. This will ensure that the smiley face is drawn in the center to Draw A Smile.
Step 2
Draw a short curved stripe on the upper left side of the face.
This will form the smiley’s left eyebrow to Draw A Smile.
Step 3
Draw another short line curving down on the opposite side of the face. This will form your smiley’s right eyebrow.
After completing this step, the face should have a pair of eyebrows. Make sure your eyebrows are parallel to each other to Draw A Smile.
Step 4
Draw an upward curving line at the bottom of the face to create a smile.
This curved line should be longer than the first two curved lines we drew in the previous step, as it should form a huge smile to Draw A Smile.
Step 5
Draw a short converging line with the left end of the smile we drew in the earlier step.
This creates a smile stripe on the left flank of the smiley.
Step 6
Repeat the previous step on the other end of the smile.
You now have a smile stripe on both flanks. Smile stripes make the smile emerge bigger and wider.
Step 7
Draw an oval shape that goes just below the left eyebrow. This will create the left-eye outline of your smiley face.
Next, draw two small circular shapes inside the eye. Now add shadows to the entire eye, leaving out the two small unshaded circles. This creates an illusion of glitter in the eye.
Note that the circle at the top of the eye should be slightly larger than the one at the bottom.
Step 8
Repeat the previous step on the opposing side to form the right eye of your smiley.
After completing this step, you should have giant sparkling eyes. This helps make a face more ecstatic!
Step 9
Add more sentiment to your smiley look by making your cheeks appear flushed. Continue drawing a small oval on each cheek for a dramatic blush effect.
Now that we’ve successfully attracted a smiley face, it’s time for the part you’re presumably looking forward to the most: coloring your drawing.
As you can see in the image, we colored the smiley face the same colors as an emoji. We used a bold yellow color for the whole face and a touch of pink for the flushed cheeks.
You can color your smiley face as we did on ours, or you can use a unique color set.
We recommend the latter so you can use colors and personalize your artwork!
